Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho – The Idaho Steelheads added another two points to the win column Saturday night, with a 4-2 victory over the Las Vegas Wranglers at the Bank of America Centre. Idaho had a two-goal lead after the first period, but Las Vegas evened it up early in the third. However, Scott Burt's game-winning tally at 11:38 of the final frame gave Idaho its second win in as many nights.

Las Vegas had the first power play early in the game, but Idaho would score the first goal on the power play at 14:44. Frank Lukes had possession of the puck to the left of Las Vegas' goaltender Sebastien Centomo who anticipated a shot. Instead Lukes passed across the crease to a waiting Brett Draney who scored top shelf. Idaho increased the lead to two goals just a minute later when Scott Burt gained control of the puck in his own end and skated it down the ice into the Wranglers zone. Burt passed to Dan Vandermeer who fed it back to him. Burt took the shot and Landon Bathe knocked it in to score his second of the year at 15:37.

The Wranglers controlled the puck most of the second period and scored the only goal late in the frame. Jason Spence took the initial shot and Idaho netminder Frank Doyle made the stop, but couldn't hang on to the puck. Dana Lattery was sitting outside the crease and tapped in the rebound for his eighth of the year at 17:20. By the end of the second period, Las Vegas had outshot Idaho 28-14.

Lattery notched his second goal of the night after Jeff Attard fed him the puck in front of Idaho's net. Doyle positioned himself to make the save shortside, but Lattery deked him out and scored stick side at 2:43 of the third period. Scott Burt scored the game-winning goal for Idaho on a redirect from defenseman Darrell Hay's shot. With 1:03 left, Las Vegas pulled its goalie, but Bobby Russell's shot from outside the centerline found the empty net to seal the game, 4-2.

Idaho takes to the road next weekend for a California swing, and then returns home to play two games on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day night against the Peoria Rivermen.
