Bombers battle back before falling short in Peoria, 4-3

Peoria, IL – The Dayton Bombers battled back from a 2-1 defecit, took a 3-2 lead in the third period, then lost a 4-3 decision to the Peoria Rivermen in front of 4,502 at Carver Arena in Peoria, Illinois Saturday night.

The Rivermen opened the scoring :42 seconds after the opening face-off when Randy Rowe beat Bombers goaltender MIKE AYERS with a slapshot from just inside the blueline. The Bombers tied the game when MATT HERNEISEN capitalized on a backhand shot, and it was 1-1 at the 7:22 mark of period one. However, just :56 seconds later, Tyler Rennette scored a powerplay goal :09 seconds after an elbowing penalty to Shawn Limpright, and the Rivermen led 2-1 after 20 minutes.

After a scoreless second period, BRYAN NATHE tied the game, 2-2, with his first professional goal 1:58 of the third period. Then, MATT HERNEISEN scored his second goal of the night, on the powerplay, at 10;07 and the Bombers opened their first lead of the night, 3-2.

At 16:34Kris Kasper tipped a Brian McCullough shot past Ayers to tie it, 3-3. And the game-winning goal came off the stick of Rivermen captain Trevor Baker with just :55 seconds remaining.

The Bombers are back in action Tuesday night when they open a 2-game series against the Trenton Titans at the Nutter Center. Gametime is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Audio coverage will be provided at daytonbombers.com.
