Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads returned home to the Bank of America Centre Saturday night to play Game 3 of the West Division Semifinals against the Long Beach Ice Dogs and fell 4-2 before 4,569. Long Beach now leads the best-of-five series 2-1. Game 4 is slated for tomorrow night (Sunday) at the B of A with a 7:10 pm puck drop.

Ice Dogs scored just 44-seconds to start the game as Joe Cardelli took possession of the puck and skated in on a breakaway. He took a shot and Yeats stopped it, but as Cardelli was sliding into Idaho's goaltender, the puck was pushed into the net with his skate. Idaho answered back soon after when on the power play, Idaho applied pressure on the Ice Dogs' net and Andrei Vasilyev was credited with a goal that was deflected in off of Steve Villaneuve's skate. Idaho had another power play opportunity midway through the period, but Long Beach did a great job of clearing the puck, disallowing the Steelheads a shot. Darrell Hay gave his team a one-goal lead with just 1:09 remaining in the first period and just as a Long Beach penalty had expired . Vasilyev fed Hay who was set up in the left circle and Hay one-timed a shot past Centomo, shortside. Idaho outshot Long Beach 21-8 in the first 20-minutes.

Frustrations were running high at the end of the first period and a scuffle broke out, which resulted in a Steelheads man-advantage to start the second period. But, nobody scored for several minutes. After several great chances, Long Beach evened the game at 15:56. Christian Larrivee fed Evan Cheverie who got the puck under the right leg of a sliding Yeats as he was going down to attempt the save. Shots on goal were even in the second with both team notching

Idaho had a power play at 5:25 and then had a five-on-three for 49-seconds, but Long Beach killed it off. Idaho was afforded another man-advantage at 9:41, but again couldn't capitalize. Instead, the Ice Dogs scored on a soft goal that was shot from the left circle by Dan Watson and got by Yeats on the far side of the net. Yeats was pulled to add the extra attacker with just over a minute to go, but Long Beach sealed the game with an empty netter from Chris Kenady at 19:28.
