
Gladiators Rout \'Wolves, 8-1

The Gwinnett Gladiators scored a season-high eight goals to rout the visiting Mississippi Sea Wolves 8 â 1 Saturday night in front of 4,831 fans at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
After getting off to a slow start with one goal in the first period, the Gladiators picked up the pace, scoring three goals in the second period and four in the third.
Jeff Campbell posted his first goal of the post season to give the Gladiators a 1-0 lead at 12:29 of the first period. Chris Durno picked up an assist on the goal rolling the puck across the crease where Campbell jammed it home. Kris Goodjohn also had a helper on the goal.
Mike Stathopoulos picked up what would be the game-winner when he pushed the Gladiators lead to 2-0 early into the second period. Stathopoulos batted his own rebound past Suave to pick up the un-assisted goal.
Adam Smyth picked up his first post-season goal at the 14:46 mark when he picked up the puck off the boards to extend the Gladiator lead to 3-0. Lane Manson picked up the assist on the goal.
Stathopoulos tallied his second goal of the game with 1:07 left in the second period. The Gwinnett center picked the pocket of a Mississippi defenseman as he scored his second un-assisted goal of the night and extend the lead 4-0.
Travis Lisabeth scored Mississippi's lone goal of the game with one second left in the second period. Nick Greenough was credited with the assist on the goal.
The Gladiators wasted no time in getting started in the game's final period. Chris Durno scored at the 1:05 mark, getting help from Andrew Oke and Jeff Campbell on the play.
2004 ECHL Rookie of the Year Kevin Doell picked up his first postseason goal at the 4:11 mark. Doell and Brad Schell came down on a two-on-one break to set up the play. Doell faked a pass to Schell and was able to slip the puck past Suave to extend the Gladiator lead, 6-1.
Suave came out of the game following the Doell goal and was replaced by Randy Petruk. Suave finished the game with 41 saves, allowing six goals.
Gwinnett defenseman Oke left the game with 7:14 left in the period. Oke was boarded in the corner by Jeff Hutchins. Hutchins was charged with a Game Misconduct in the incident that left Oke with 30 stitches.
Kris Goodjohn earned the Gladiators' first power-play goal of the night with 1:42 left in the game. Randy Dagenais and Chris Durno assisted on the play.
Doell capped off the 8-1 win as he scored his second goal, and the Gladiators' second power-play goal, 27 second later. Campbell and Schell earned assists on the goal.
Petruk finished the game with 15 saves, allowing two goals. Adam Berkhoel earned the win, only allowing one goal in the game and stopping 16 Mississippi shots.
Durno and Campbell led the way for the Gladiators, picking up one goal and two assists each. Stathopoulos and Doell each tallied two goals in the game while Goodjohn finished with a goal and an assist.
The Gladiators return to action in Game Three of the Kelly Cup Playoffs Monday night against the Mississippi Sea Wolves. The game will be a 7:05 p.m. start at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Gwinnett holds a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series.
