April 17, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA â Royals goaltender Barry Brust believes turnabout is fair play. After stopping 28 of 29 shots in game one, Brust found his team on the losing side of the ledger to Toledo 1-0. Opposing goaltender Scott Fankhouser turned away 32 Royals shots to escape from the "Jungle" with a shutout victory. Game two would be Brust's turn, however. The rookie goaltender stopped 31 Storm shots to give his team a 1-0 victory in game two. The Swan River, Manitoba native stopped 13 shots in the third period of play to record his first post-season victory, a 31-save shutout.
Toledo netminder Scott Fankhouser was stellar in net again for the Storm. He stopped 28 of 29 Royals offerings in defeat and held the Royals scoreless for 114:33 of playoff hockey. The Royals finally broke through at the 14:33 mark of the final stanza. The goal ended a drought, dating back to April 8 versus Atlantic City, of 177:22 of scoreless hockey for Reading. Mike Sandbeck picked up a loose puck on the side of the Toledo net and backhanded it past Fankhouser. Eric Fortier recorded an assist on the goal. Toledo defenseman PJ Martin's attempted clear out of the Storm zone caught Fortier's skate and deflected into the low slot just off the left post. Sandbeck skated around the net and the left-handed shot from Mossbank Saskatchewan one-timed a backhander into the Toledo net for the only goal of the contest.
Both teams penalty killers remained perfect. The Royals were zero for six in the contest, while the Storm were zero for four. In the two games played in the best-of-five series, Reading is zero for 14 and Toledo is zero for ten. Toledo out shot Reading in game two, 31-29.
The two clubs meet for game three Sunday, April 17 in the Toledo Sports Arena at 6:05 p.m. Toledo will host game four, as well, on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Reading will host game five (if necessary) in the Sovereign Center, Wednesday, April 20 at 7:05 p.m.
