Brampton Steelheads News Release
Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga Steelheads played their third game in as many days Sunday afternoon, as they hosted the Central Division leading Barrie Colts at the Hershey Centre. The Sunday matinee saw a great turnout for Steelheads annual Pink at the Rink game in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Both teams looked to bounce back in this crucial division matchup following losses in their previous games, but unfortunately for Mississauga, it would be Barrie that came out on top in this one.
The Colts would strike first at 8:34 of the opening frame as Roy Radke shoveled the puck in front of the Steelheads goal, where Justin Scott was waiting to bury it. Dylan Sadowy was credited with the other assist on Scott's 19th of the season. Alexander Nylander would even the score a few minutes later at 13:03 on the power play with a beautiful wrist shot that went right over Badenhorst's blocker. Nathan Bastian and Josh Burnside had the helpers on Nylander's 25th of the season. It was all Steelheads for the remainder of the first at Mississauga outshot Barrie 12-10, but the game remained tied at one heading into the first intermission.
The second period saw a number of excellent chances at both ends, but the game would stay tied after forty minutes of play as neither team's offence was able to produce anything.
Barrie regained their lead early in the third as Dylan Sadowy buried a one timer from Kevin LaBanc at 1:55 on the power play. The Colts would extend their lead 3-1 at 9:35, again on the power play, as Rasmus Andersson fired a shot from the point that was redirected by Sadowy. LaBanc had the other assist on Sadowy's second of the game and 28th of the season. With time winding down, Nicolas Hague would bring the Steelheads within one, blasting one home from the point from Alexander Nylander and Everett Clark on the power play. Unfortunately the Steelheads were unable to complete the comeback as Andrew Mangiapane added an empty net goal for a 4-2 final.
Next on the agenda, Alexander Nylander, Michael McLeod, Nathan Bastian, and Sean Day will make the trip to Vancouver for the BMO CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on Thursday before returning home to host the Hamilton Bulldogs on Friday, January 29th.
