In their first game since clinching a postseason berth, the Mississauga Steelheads earned a hard fought 2-1 win against the Eastern Conference leading Kingston Frontenacs.

The Frontenacs struck first when Warren Foegele capitalized on an early giveaway behind the Steelheads net. The Steelheads responded well in the first and were able to shut down the high powered Frontenacs attack for much of the period.

The second period was a fast paced, entertaining frame but neither team was able to score.

The third period started where the second left off when, Mikey McLeod used his speed to surprise the Kingston back line and tuck a quick shot post goaltender Jeremy Helvig. The Steelheads kept the pressure up and it wasn't long before Nic Hague used his 6-foot 5-inch frame to protect the puck, find his own rebound and put home what would end up being the game winning goal.

Despite being outshot by 22, the Steelheads carried much of the play and were backstopped by a stellar performance by goaltender Jack Flinn. Flinn made 42 stops en route to his 31st win of the season.

SCORING:

1st - KGN: Warren Foegele (11), 4:40

3rd - MISS: Michael McLeod (21), 0:23

3rd - MISS: Nic Hague (13) (R. McLeod, Muzito-Bagenda), 8:43

The Steelheads return to action on Wednesday March 16 vs. the Oshawa Generals as they continue to battle for playoff position in the tightly packed Eastern Conference.
