ADELANTO, Calif. - The High Desert Mavericks scored in all but two innings on Friday night on their way to a blowout victory over the Stockton Ports. The Mavericks got a pair of home runs from Travis Demeritte as they handily defeated Stockton by a final of 11-1 at Mavericks Stadium to even their four-game series at a game apiece.

The Mavericks got the scoring started early as Luke Tendler reached on an infield single with two outs and scored on an ensuing double by Juremi Profar. The Mavs built on their lead in the second as Demeritte led off with his league-leading 17th home run of the season. In the fourth, Jose Trevino led off with a double and scored two batters later on a groundout by Jairo Beras to make it a 3-0 advantage.

Stockton's lone run of the contest came in the fifth. With runners at second and third and two outs, Melvin Mercedes hit an infield single back to the mound that kicked to the third base side of the infield, scoring Joe Benne from third and cutting the High Desert lead to 3-1. It was the only run allowed by Mavericks starter Ariel Jurado (6-1), who picked up the win after going five innings and allowing six hits while striking out two.

High Desert got the run right back in the bottom of the fifth as Michael De Leon tripled to open the frame and scored on an ensuing sac-fly by Scott Heineman to make it a three-run game again at 4-1.

Ports starter Brett Graves (2-6) suffered his worst inning of the night in the sixth, his final inning of work. Back-to-back singles opened the inning and, after an out was recorded, the Graves intentionally walked Beras to load the bases and face Josh Morgan, who dumped a two-run single into center field that chased Graves from the contest. Koby Gauna came on in relief and allowed a two-run double to Heineman that made it an 8-1 High Desert advantage.

Graves suffered the loss, going five-and-a-third innings and allowing eight runs on eight hits while striking out one. Gauna would go an inning-and-two-thirds scoreless while allowing just the one hit.

Corey Miller took over for Gauna to pitch the eighth and would allow a pair of homers. Demeritte led off with his second home run of the night to make it 9-1. Later in the inning with one on and tow out, Heineman drove in his fourth and fifth runs of the contest with a two-run homer to left to run the High Desert lead to 11-1.

High Desert's bullpen, a combination of Nick Gardewine, Scott Williams and Austin Pettibone, combined to pitch four scoreless innings down the stretch.

The Ports and Mavericks play the third game of their four-game set on Saturday night at Mavericks Stadium. Heath Fillmyer (3-4, 2.93 ERA) makes the start for Stockton, opposed by High Desert right-hander Collin Wiles (2-3, 5.25 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PDT.
