Blaze Win 12-Inning Thriller, 6-4

Bakersfield Blaze News Release

Kyle Petty and the Bakersfield Blaze offense scored ten runs in the first four innings, Tyler Herb struck out ten, and the Lancaster Jethawks rolled over in game two of the series, with the Blaze cruising to a 12-5 win.

Unlike the opener, which largely featured pitchers escaping jams, the Friday night battle was highlighted by teams capitalizing on errors and baseball soaring through the thin air and out into the night sky.

Early, Kyle Petty put on a show before the rest of the two teams got involved. Petty, the team-leader in homers, padded his advantage with a solo shot in the 2nd and a grand slam in the 3rd that, at the time, gave the Blaze a 5-1 edge.

Bakersfield kept adding, too. Justin Seager mashed a two-run homer in the 4th inning, and Gianfranco Wawoe, Drew Jackson, Aaron Barbosa and Jay Baum each reached base to plate another three for what felt like a pretty comfortable 10-1 lead.

But Lancaster began to fight back in the 5th, largely thanks to the assistance provided by the Blaze. An error and two hit batters led to a run, and a three-run homer brought the Jethawks back to within five at 10-5.

A sign of good things, however, is not letting a team back into a contest. Newest Blaze Gareth Morgan got into the box score with a two-run double in the 7th, pushing the lead back to seven.

And at seven it would stay. Tyler Herb worked 6.0 innings, striking out 10 batters for the win, and Osmer Morales faced nine batters, and set all nine down without allowing a baserunner.

The win is the 14th in 16 games for Bakersfield on the road and the club moves back to two games over the 500 mark with two games to go in the first half.
