Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - Kyle Petty hit two home runs for the Bakersfield Blaze, including a grand slam, as they jumped out to a big lead and held on to defeat the JetHawks, 12-5 on Friday night at The Hangar.
Petty hit the first of his long balls leading off the second inning against JetHawks starter Matt Bower (2-3). Lancaster tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Antonio Nunez.
The Blaze went on to score nine unanswered runs in the next two frames. In the third inning with two out and nobody on, Drew Jackson and Aaron Barbosa picked up back-to-back infield singles and Jay Baum reached on a fielding error by first baseman Bryan Muniz. That set up Petty, who went the other way and snuck his grand slam just inside the right field foul pole.
Justin Seager hit a two-run homer to highlight Bakersfield's five-run fourth inning. Baum also delivered a two-run double.
The JetHawks made their way back into the game with a four-run fifth inning. One run came in on a wild pitch, before Jason Martin hit a line drive three-run homer just over the wall in right, his team-leading 12th home run on the season.
Bakersfield scored a pair of big insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning, both coming on a two-run single by Gareth Morgan, who was playing in his first game of the season since being added to the Blaze roster from extended spring training.
Tyler Herb (7-2) picked up the win for the Blaze with six strong innings of work. He allowed five unearned runs on four hits, with one walk and 10 strikeouts. Osmer Morales tossed three perfect innings to earn his first save of the season.
The JetHawks (34-33) and Blaze (35-33) continue their four-game series on Saturday night at The Hangar. Right-hander Rogelio Armenteros (3-1) will start for Lancaster against left-hander Tyler Pike (2-5). First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
