York Revolution News Release
Nick Stavinoha broke a tie score with a monstrous two-run home run to deep left-center in the top of the sixth inning as the Sugar Land Skeeters defeated the York Revolution 3-1 on Thursday evening at Santander Stadium, sewing up a series victory. The Revs will look to avoid the sweep in the finale on Friday night.
Clearing the advertisements behind the playground in left-center, Stavinoha's home run was his second of the series, following a three-run shot that opened the scoring in the first inning the previous night. He has a total of five RBI through the first two games of the series.
Sugar Land took a first inning lead for the second straight game, scoring an unearned run on a double to left-center by Delwyn Young for a quick 1-0 advantage.
The Revs tied the score as Eric Patterson launched a solo home run to right-center, taking the team lead with his 13th of the year to lead off the home fourth, knotting things at 1-1.
That was the only run allowed by Skeeters starter Clint Everts (5-8) who scattered six hits over seven innings to pick up the win. Roy Corcoran and Gary Majewski (19th save) each worked perfect innings out of the bullpen to finish it off.
Revs starter Corey Thurman (6-4) turned in another strong effort, but was victimized by Stavinoha's sixth inning home run, suffering the loss. Thurman allowed three runs (two earned) over 6.2 innings, as his three-game winning streak is snapped and his bid to move into sole possession of second place in Atlantic League history in wins is put on hold, still with 62 victories all-time in a York uniform.
The Revs fall to 3-7 against the Skeeters on the season, their worst record against any opponent. The Skeeters have now won five straight overall and nine of their last ten contests, maintaining a two-game lead in the Freedom Division's second half standings at 17-11, while the first half champion Revs slip three games off the pace at 14-14.
York lefty Logan Williamson (3-5, 2.38) faces Sugar Land right-hander Matt Wright (7-7, 3.42) on Friday with first pitch at 6:30 p.m. It is 1969 York Pirates Tribute Night presented by Arthritis Foundation, featuring a throwback jersey and cap auction.
