Crabs Rally Past Ducks to Even Series

WALDORF, MD . - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs scored twice in the bottom of the 7th to overcome a deficit and defeat the Long Island Ducks 2-1 in the middle game of their three-game series.

Starter Mitch Talbot held Southern Maryland scoreless in six innings, but the Blue Crabs had the answer against reliever Jon Meloan (0-4) in the 7th. Addison Maruszak and James Skelton led off with back-to-back walks and Amadeo Zazueta tied the game with an RBI single up the middle. Jermaine Mitchell came up next and reached on a fielding error by second baseman Cody Puckett that allowed Skelton to score the go-ahead run from second base.

Wade Korpi (4-2) earned the win out of the bullpen for Southern Maryland pitching three scoreless innings of relief. Meloan did not record an out in the 7th and took the loss. Anthony Slama converted his fifth save in as many chances for Southern Maryland.

After leaving seven runners on base in the first four innings, Long Island finally broke through for a run in the top of the 5th. With two outs and a runner on third, Adam Bailey singled to right field to bring in Brendan Harris for the game's first run.

Long Island had plenty of chances in the game but left 12 men on base overall.

Southern Maryland will finish their three-game series with the Long Island Ducks tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. Righty Gaby Hernandez (4-7, 4.84) will pitch for the Blue Crabs while right-hander John Brownell (11-6, 3.86) is slated to start for Long Island.
