Stauffer Shuts Down Redbirds

PORTLAND, Ore. - Tim Stauffer threw six solid innings allowing just two runs on six hits and Brian Myrow was 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs as the Portland Beavers defeated the Memphis Redbirds 5-3 Monday night at PGE Park.

The Beavers continue their series with Memphis, Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. at PGE Park.

Stauffer picked up his sixth win of the season and has not lost a decision in over a month, going 3-0 with a 3.00 ERA in four starts. Stauffer has struck out 26 batters while walking only 8 over his last 27 innings pitched.

Terrmel Sledge hit his first home run since being transferred to Portland from San Diego and his 25th home run over 109 games with the Beavers.

Portland (48-69) sent nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the first inning, scoring four runs on five hits, highlighted by a two-run home run from Myrow, his 11th of the season.

Former Beaver Tagg Bozied put Memphis (47-70) on the board in the top of the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Mike Ferris from third. Skip Schumaker then hit a two-run home run off Portland reliever Aaron Rakers to bring the Redbirds within one run.

Portland would add an insurance run in the bottom of the frame on a sacrifice fly from Myrow that scored Hiram Bocachica from third. Myrow's three RBIs in the game give him 61 on the season, second on the team behind Pete Laforest.

Jared Wells struck out two in the top of the eighth inning and Scott Cassidy pitched a scoreless ninth to seal the victory for the Beavers.

NOTES: Outfielder Yordany Ramirez left the game in the second inning after stealing second base ... prior to Sunday's game, the Padres recalled pitcher Mike Thompson and optioned right-handed pitcher Clay Hensley to Portland ... Myrow had his 11-game hitting streak snapped Sunday night.
