-SPIKES HEAD TO MAHONING VALLEY FOR THREE GAMES: The State College Spikes begin the second half of their road trip today with the first game of a three-game series with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers tonight at Eastwood Field. State College is 1-2 so far on the road trip, splitting a doubleheader in Jamestown two nights ago in the process. The Spikes are 24-26 all-time against the Scrappers, with a 10-15 mark all-time at Eastwood Field
-LAST GAME: Stetson Allie struck out three in his second pro start for the State College Spikes, and the State College Spikes came back late, but fell, 7-6, in 12 frames to the Jamestown Jammers at Russell Diethrick Park on Saturday night. The Spikes entered the ninth inning down, 6-3, but scored three runs, including one on Alex Fusilier's dash home on ball four of an intentional walk. Justin Bencsko collected three hits for the Spikes, including a double in the fourth inning. Carlos Mesa put together a pair of hits plus two runs batted in, with Fusilier and Chris Lashmet also ending the game with multiple hits.
-JEFFERSON MAKES PRO DEBUT FOR SPIKES: State College will send left-hander Mike Jefferson to the mound for the start in his first professional outing after being taken by the Pirates in the 22nd round of the 2011 MLB Draft. Jefferson went 6-4 with a 3.56 ERA in 18 appearances on the mound in his senior season with Louisiana Tech. Jefferson was rated as the seventh-best draft-eligible prospect in WAC before 2011 season by Perfect Game USA.
-RADEKE MAKES FIRST SCRAPPERS START: Right-hander Mason Radeke also makes his pro debut tonight in the start for Mahoning Valley. Radeke was chosen in the 35th round by the Indians in this year's draft, and finished second in the Big West Conference with 95 strikeouts for Cal Poly this past spring. The Santa Barbara, CA native recovered from an arm injury suffered in 2010 to be a weekend starter for the Mustangs.
