Jamestown Jammers News Release

BATAVIA, N.Y. - A pair of three-run innings lifted the Jamestown Jammers (7-3) past the Batavia Muckdogs, 6-2, at Dwyer Stadium Sunday night.

Eight different Jammer players accounted for the offense that was able to string together hits in both the sixth and ninth inning to account for all six runs.

Opponents have scored first in six of the last seven games against Jamestown, and the Muckdogs were no exception as they scored a pair of runs in the second inning.

David Medina got things started with a base hit to right before Romulo Ruiz belted a double to put runners on second and third. A throwing error by shortstop Yefri Perez allowed two runs to score and gave the Muckdogs a golden opportunity to add on to their lead with runners at second and third again; however, Jamestown right fielder Nestor Castillo caught a fly ball then threw out Kevin Moscatel trying to score to end the threat.

Michael Maness would throw five shutout innings for Batavia, but the Jammers would strike after the Muckdogs made the call to the bullpen.

With one out in the sixth, Pedro Mendoza and Terrence Dayleg had back-to-back singles to get the offense started. Brent Keys followed with his first double of the season to plate Mendoza and cut the Muckdog advantage to one. Ryan Goetz delivered the purple and green's fourth straight hit to score two more runs and give the team a 3-2 advantage.

The one-run lead would prove to be more than enough for the Jamestown bullpen as four relievers combined to throw six shutout innings, but the Jammers would tack on some insurance runs in the ninth inning.

Eddie Rodriguez walked with one out and Castillo singled to left to put runners at first and second. Shortstop Perez atoned for his earlier throwing error with a double that scored Rodriguez. Mendoza proceded to bounce one to first baseman David Medina that looked like it would end the inning, but Ricky Martinez dropped the ball trying to cover first to allow two more runs to score.

Chris Squires earned the win for Jamestown after tossing three innings with two strikeouts. Blake Brewer, Kenneth Toves and Alfredo Buret each pitched a hitless inning to slam the door on the Muckdogs, who fell to 3-7.

Romulo Ruiz paced the Batavia offense with a single, double and walk, and Virgil Hill added a double.

Adam Bileckyj took the loss for the Muckdogs. He gave up six hits and six runs in 3.2 innings of work.

The two teams will continue their three-game series tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Dwyer Stadium with the Jammers looking for their third consecutive series victory.
