Niles, Ohio - Mahoning Valley scored six runs in the first inning en route to an 8-1 victory over the State College Spikes.
The Scrappers sent 10 men to the plate in the inning, hitting four doubles and chasing State College starter Mike Jefferson. Jake Lowery, Kevin Fontanez, Todd Hankins and KC Serna drove in the runs.
Mahoning Valley added a run in the second and another in the eighth.
Starter Mason Radeke threw five innings of one-run ball to pick up the win in his first start of the season. He is 1-0.
The Scrappers finished with eight runs on 12 hits, one shy of their season high in each category.
The series between the Scrappers and the Spikes continues Monday night at 7:05 pm.
