Five Errors, Nine Walks Add up to Aberdeen's Ninth Straight Loss

Aberdeen, MD - For the second consecutive night, the Aberdeen IronBirds' bats were kept at bay, as they fell to the Brooklyn Cyclones 6-1 Sunday evening. The IronBirds' pitching staff surrendered nine walks, while giving up only six hits on the evening and defensively the IronBirds committed five errors on their way to falling to 1-9 on the season.

Brooklyn struck in the top of the second. Brian Harrison walked, advanced to second on a throwing error by Aberdeen starter Aaron Wirsch, and then moved to third on a wild pitch. Travis Taijeron then walked, and Juan Torres reached on a fielder's choice and another error by Wirsch. The throwing error allowed Harrison to score, and Taijeron would come in to score on an RBI groundout from Dylan Brown.

Brooklyn quickly extended their 2-0 lead. Javier Rodriguez worked a one-out walk in the top of the third. He advanced to second on a groundout and then came around to score on a throwing error on IronBird second baseman Dudley Leonora. Brooklyn led 3-0 after three innings.

The Cyclones would add again to their lead in the top of the fifth. Ismael Tijerina led off with a walk, Rodriguez hit a one out single and then Harrison batted both of them home with a two-RBI single, making the Cyclone lead 5-0.

Aberdeen would get on the board in the bottom of the sixth. Adam Davis, the Orioles' 2011 11th round draft pick, reached second on a two-base error and scored on Martin Serrata's RBI single, making it 5-1 in favor of the Cyclones.

Brooklyn would tack one more run on the board in the ninth. After Tijerina led off the inning with a groundout, Brandon Brown homered into the Cyclone bullpen in left field, giving the Cyclones a 6-1 lead that would become final when the IronBirds went in order in the bottom of the ninth.

Aaron Wirsch (0-1, 3.00) takes the loss for the IronBirds. Marco Camarena (1-0, 1.80) went six innings and earned the win. The Cyclones and IronBirds will do battle again tomorrow night starting at 7:05 p.m. Aberdeen's Parker Bridwell (1-1, 3.38) will take the hill for his third start of the season. Brooklyn will counter with Eduardo Aldama (1-0, 1.86).
