Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

Brooklyn, NY - The Brooklyn Cyclones (6-3) averted a three-game sweep by defeating the Hudson Valley Renegades (4-4) 7-2 on Saturday night at MCU Park.

After amassing just two runs in two games on the road on Thursday and Friday night, Brooklyn's bats produced early and were backed by another positive outing from franchise wins leader Chris Hilliard (2-0).

With Cyclones on first and second in the bottom of the first inning, Javier Rodriguez doubled down the right field line to plate a run and put runners on second and third. Brian Harrison followed up with a single up the middle to drive in two, giving Brooklyn a quick 3-0 lead off of starter Jacob Partridge (0-1). Partridge pitched 5.0 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits.

The Renegades scored a run in the top of the third, but the Cyclones responded with a lead-off double by Brandon Brown, who came around to score on an RBI single by Richard Lucas.

With a 4-1 lead in the fifth, Brandon Brown deposited a 1-0 offering from Partridge over the left field wall to extend the Brooklyn lead to four runs. The home run was the first of his professional career.

An inning later, Juan Torres added a solo home run that sailed well over the left field wall, his first of 2011.

Up 6-1 in the seventh, Brandon Brown slugged another home run to left, extending Brooklyn's lead to six runs.

Hilliard, who threw five scoreless innings on Monday night versus Aberdeen, threw 5.1 innings allowing a run on an RBI single through the left side by Gerardo Olivares in the top of the third inning. The southpaw allowed seven hits with one strikeout, extending his franchise wins record to 12. Hunter Carnevale and T.J. Chism combined to pitch 4.2 innings of one-run ball.

The Cyclones, who swept the Aberdeen IronBirds in three games earlier in the week at MCU Park, begin a three-game road set starting tomorrow night at 5:35 PM. Marco Camarena (0-0, 4.50 ERA) takes the mound for Brooklyn while Aberdeen will send Aaron Wirsch (0-0, 0.00 ERA) to the hill. The Cyclones return back to Coney Island on Wednesday night at 7 PM for GLEE Night and the sole weekday Fireworks Show of the season. The first 3,000 fans in attendance will have the opportunity to win game-worn jerseys from Cyclones of the past. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at the MCU Park box office, by calling 718-507-TIXX or at BrooklynCyclones.com
