-SPIKES FINISH MINI-SERIES AT MAHONING VALLEY: The State College Spikes complete a two-game set against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers tonight at Eastwood Field in Niles, OH . State College was swept by Mahoning Valley in a three-game series earlier this year at Eastwood Field, but recovered for a series victory against the Scrappers at Medlar FIeld at Lubrano Park. The Spikes are 26-31 all-time against the Scrappers.

-LAST GAME: Two early errors and three hit batsmen contributed to an early deficit for the Spikes, and the Scrappers held on for the win, 6-1, on Tuesday night at Eastwood Field. The Spikes scored their lone run in the ninth inning. Derek Trent led off the frame with a double, advanced to third on a balk, and scored on Walker Gourley's RBI groundout. State College was also dealt a setback in the first inning when starting second baseman Ashley Ponce was struck in the face by a sharp groundball. Ponce left the game under his own power in favor of Gourley. Trent, Alex Fuselier, and Chris Lashmet all had multiple hits for the Spikes.

-SPIKES SEND KINGHAM TO HILL: Right-hander Nick Kingham gets the ball for State College tonight on the heels of his first professional victory. The Las Vegas, NV native pitched five scoreless, four-hit innings against Staten Island on Friday to get the win, notching a strikeouts in the process as well. Kingham, the fourth-round draft pick of the Pirates in 2010, went five scoreless frames against Mahoning Valley on June 27 at Eastwood Field.

-JIMENEZ GETS START FOR SCRAPPERS: Mahoning Valley will go with left-hander Danny Jimenez on the mound tonight for his fourth appearance and first start against the Spikes this year. Jimenez has allowed just two unearned runs on a hit and two walks over 4 2/3 innings against State College in the 2011 season. Jimenez has made a total of three starts this year, comprising a total of 12 1/3 innings, and has allowed just one run as a starter.
