Ninth Inning Comeback Falls One Run Short

Auburn Doubledays News Release
Williamsport, PA - With the bases loaded and nobody out in the ninth inning, the Doubledays were in prime position for their first come-from-behind win of the year. Unfortunately, that comeback was thwarted with the tying run standing at third base as Auburn fell, 3-2.
The comeback began when Caleb Ramsey lined a single to centerfield off of reliever Gabriel Arias. Back-to-back walks to Hendry Jimenez and Matt Skole chased Arias from the contest and summoned Juary Gomez. With the bases loaded, nobody out and trailing by three runs, Adrian Nieto drew a walk against Gomez, giving Auburn their first run and making it a 3-1 game. Justin Miller followed with a fly ball to right-center field, scoring Jimenez, advancing Skole to third and Nieto to second and putting the tying run just 90 feet away with one out in the inning.
The next batter, Angelberth Montilla hit a ground ball to third, and with Matt Skole moving on contact, the throw went home. Skole barreled through the Cutters' catcher Francisco Diaz, but Diaz held onto the baseball, tagging Skole out for the inning's second out. Bryce Ortega, who pinch-ran for Nieto, took third on the play while Montilla was safe at first, setting up a two-out at bat for Roberto Perez. Unfortunately, Perez struck out swinging, and the Doubledays comeback hopes were stopped with Williamsport holding on to a 3-2 win.
Nathan Karns, who made his first start with the Doubledays, took the loss, giving up three runs in four innings of work. Caleb Ramsey led the way offensively for Auburn, finishing 3 for 4 with three singles.
The Doubledays will try to take game two of the four game series tomorrow in a 7:05pm start at Historic Bowman Field in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Fans are invited to listen to the play-by-play from the Voice of the Doubledays, John Miller, by tuning into the pre-game show at 6:50pm on 89.1 FM in Auburn or on the internet at www.auburndoubledays.com.
