
Late Rally Not Enough in Scrappers Loss to Spikes

Niles, Ohio - The Scrappers rallied from a 4-2 deficit entering the ninth inning but fell in ten, 5-4, to the State College Spikes.
Mahoning Valley trailed nearly the entire night, allowing a run in the top of the first inning and two in the fourth to fall behind 3-0. Alex Lavisky homered to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 3-1, but the Spikes scored in the top of the sixth to take a 4-1 lead.
Todd Hankins led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run to make it 4-2, where the score remained until the ninth.
Tony Wolters doubled in a run to cut the deficit to 4-3 and Jake Lowery hit a long sacrifice fly to tie the game at 4-4.
In the top of the 10th inning, Carlos Mesa homered with one out to put State College ahead. The Scrappers got a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the inning but could not bring him home.
Will Krasne picked up the loss for the Scrappers, falling to 1-1. Mitch Fienemann picked up the win for the Spikes, improving to 1-2. Vince Payne recorded his first save of the season.
The Scrappers and Spikes will open up a two-game series in State College, Pennsylvania, on Thursday night at 7:05 pm.
