Jamestown Jammers News Release

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - Nate Woods' warning track fly out with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth epitomized the night for the Jamestown Jammers as they fell to the Batavia Muckdogs, 7-3, to knock Jamestown out of first place Wednesday night at Diethrick Park.

The Jammers were inches away from breaking the game open several times, but they couldn't do it, and Batavia (19-14) battled back to move in to sole possession of first place in the Pinckney Division, while the Jammers (18-15) are now a game back.

Batavia jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning on a ground-rule double by Jeremy Patton with two outs. He then came in on a line drive to center to make it 2-0 Muckdogs.

Neither team would really threaten until the Jammers finally broke through in the fifth inning on a solo homer by Woods to cut the advantage to one.

In the sixth, the Jammers would take the lead for the first time. After the first out was recorded, the next four batters reached base. Terrence Dayleg roped a double before Josh Adams and Rand Smith walked to load the bases. Eddie Rodriguez followed with a RBI single before Woods missed a grand slam by two feet on a sac fly to put Jamestown in front by a run.

The Jammers would lead entering the eighth inning; however, for the first time all season, Jamestown would lose a lead in the final three innings. Patton ripped another double to tie the game, and he scored the go-ahead run on a single to right by Roberto Reyes.

The purple and green had an opportunity to tie the game with Rand Smith at second and two outs, but Woods' screamer was snared by the third baseman to keep Batavia in front.

In the ninth inning, Batavia would break the game open with three more runs. Nick Martini had a RBI single, and Patton roped a two-run double to make it 7-3.

The Jammers would go quietly in the ninth inning to fall out of first place for the first time in over a week. Woods led the offense with the solo homer and two RBI, while Dayleg contributed a double.

Miguel Mejia took the loss to fall to 2-1 after giving up three hits and two runs in the eighth inning.

For Batavia, Eric Binder got the win in relief. Patton contributed three doubles and four RBI, while Bergman delivered three hits including a double and two runs.

The two teams now head to Batavia for two more games starting at 7:05 p.m. Thursday night.
