-SPIKES HEAD TO BATAVIA FOR PAIR OF GAMES: The State College Spikes make their final trip to Dwyer Stadium this season as they start a two-game series with the Batavia Muckdogs tonight. Batavia took four of six straight matchups against State College in early July, with tonight's game starting a stretch of four straight meetings between the two teams. The Spikes are 24-32 all-time against the Muckdogs, with an 11-16 mark at Dwyer Stadium.
-LAST GAME: Wes Freeman, playing what was potentially his last game with the State College Spikes, joined Alex Dickerson in bumping their batting averages over the .300 mark with a double and two base hits apiece, but the Spikes fell to the Williamsport Crosscutters, 13-3 thanks to two big innings on Sunday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Freeman received a promotion to the Pittsburgh Pirates' Single-A affiliate to West Virginia after his 2-for-4 performance that included a wall-ball double in the first inning and a two-run single in the fourth inning in front of 5,144 fans.
-BENEDICT BRINGING ORDER TO MOUND: Right-hander Matt Benedict gets the ball to start for State College tonight. Benedict has allowed just one earned run in 15 innings over his last three starts, including a five-inning victory over Jamestown in his most recent outing. The Pirates' 2011 30th-round pick out of Western Carolina allows just a .243 average to lefty hitters, and has walked the fifth-least batters per nine innings (1.76) in the NYPL.
-BAKER GETS DELAYED START FOR MUCKDOGS: Right-hander Corey Baker takes the mound tonight for Batavia tonight after his scheduled start last night against Auburn was washed out due to rain. Baker, the Cardinals' fourth-round draft choice out of the University of Pittsburgh in 2011, is 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA as a starter, having gone a total of ten innings in his last two outings against Lowell and Williamsport after transitioning from the bullpen.
