Vermont Lake Monsters News Release

BURLINGTON, VT --- Seth Frankoff threw a seven-inning complete-game one-hit shutout and Nick Rickles hit a two-run homer as the Vermont Lake Monsters beat the Connecticut Tigers 4-0 in New York-Penn League action Monday night at historic Centennial. Earlier the Tigers picked up a 4-3 win in the completion of a suspended game from June on a two-run homer from Dean Green in the top of the eighth inning.

Frankoff struckout seven and faced just one batter over the minimum, allowing just a one-out bunt single to Jeff Holm in the second inning before retiring the last 17 batters he faced. Frankoff (5-3) has allowed no runs and just four hits with no walks and 17 strikeouts in 13 1/3 innings over his last two starts.

Rickles gave Vermont a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with his second home run of the season, a two-run line drive homer to leftfield. The Lake Monsters added an unearned run in the third inning as Aaron Shipman led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an error. Shipman doubled and then scored Vermont's fourth run in the fifth on a Michael Fabiaschi RBI infield single.

The win moved Vermont (35-33) back into first-place in the Stedler Division by 1/2 game after Connecticut (34-33) had taken over the top spot in the Stedler with the 4-3 win in the completion of the suspended game from June 25th. Trailing 3-2 with two outs, Green lined an 0-1 pitch from Jeff Urlaub (2-1) around the foul pole down the rightfield line to give the Tigers the 4-3 lead.

The Lake Monsters, who were down 2-0 when the suspended game resumed, quickly tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a Dusty Robinson RBI double and Sam Roberts RBI single. Vermont then took the lead on a Robinson RBI single in the sixth.

Chad Oberacker, Robinson and Roberts each had two hits for Vermont in the suspended, while reliever Fernando Celis (1-4) tossed two scoreless innings for the win and Jeff Barfield two scoreless innings for his third save for Connecticut.

Vermont heads to Staten Island for a three-game series with the Yankees, while Connecticut heads home to host Hudson Valley for three games and then the Lowell Spinners for four. The Lake Monsters will return to Centennial to close out the regular-season with a three game-series with Tri-City Friday through Sunday.
