Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - After spending the past 12 days on the road, the Jamestown Jammers treated the home fans to a dramatic walk-off win Monday night, 8-7, over the Auburn Doubledays at Diethrick Park.
Brian McConkey laced a RBI single through the right side to cap a four-run rally in the ninth inning that took advantage of three walks and a wild pitch to keep the Jammers slim playoff hopes alive and get the team back to a game under .500 at 34-35.
Josh Adams paced the Jamestown offense with a pair of hits, including his second home run of the season, and two RBI. Marquise Cooper added two singles as six of the nine starters had hits and seven of the nine scored a run.
While things ended on a high note, it was a rough welcome home for the Jammers as the Doubledays had the ï¬Ârst ï¬Âve runners reach base and score off Jamestown starter Dejai Oliver.
Matt Skole ripped a two-run double to right to begin the scoring before Angelberth Montilla plated one with a double of his own. Hendry Jimenez followed with a RBI single before Billy Burns capped the scoring in the ï¬Ârst with a RBI ï¬Âelder's choice.
In the bottom of the frame, Jamestown got a run back on an Auburn miscue. Ryan Goetz drilled a single to right to begin the inning, but he was left stranded there until Adams also singled to right and the ball kicked away from Montilla to allow Goetz motor home from ï¬Ârst.
The Jammers almost got rid of the deï¬Âcit with three more runs in the bottom of the third. Cooper reached on an inï¬Âeld single before Austin Barnes was hit by a pitch. A wild pitch allowed Cooper to score from second with two outs. Then, Adams crushed a towering ï¬ây to left for his second homer of the year to cut the deï¬Âcit to one.
That score would hold until the top of the eighth inning when the Doubledays pushed across two more insurance runs.
Montilla atoned for his earlier error with a RBI double, and Jimenez added his second RBI single to give the Doubledays some breathing room.
However, it wasn't enough as Jamestown stormed back in the ninth.
Eddie Rodriguez started the frame with a walk before Viosergy Rosa lined a single to right to bring the tying run to the plate. Kentrell Dewitt and Nestor Castillo both walked to force in the ï¬Ârst run. A wild pitch by reliever Aaron Barrett allowed two more runs to score and put the winning run at third base when catcher Andruth Ramirez couldn't ï¬Ând the ball.
After the Doubledays got the second out on a foul pop out, McConkey lined a single through the right side for the Jammers second walk-off win of the season.
Curtis Petersen earned the win after pitching a scoreless inning of relief, while Barrett took the loss after giving up four runs and recording only two outs.
Montilla sparked the Doubledays with a single, two doubles and two RBI. Caleb Ramsey, Jimenez and Russell Moldenhauer all added two singles for Auburn.
The two teams will wrap up the Jamestown portion of the series Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. before heading to Auburn for two more games.
