-SPIKES RETURN HOME TO START STRETCH RUN: The State College Spikes come back to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park tonight as they are in final quarter of the New York-Penn League schedule. Tonight is the second game of the Spikes' three-game series against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. The Spikes lead the New York-Penn League Pinckney Division by six games over Auburn, while Mahoning Valley sits in sixth place, 7 1/2 games back. State College returned yesterday from a six-game road trip that ended in extra innings in Connecticut on Monday, while Mahoning Valley's home game against Staten Island on Monday was stopped in the second inning due to rain. The Spikes have split six matchups against the Scrappers this season. All-time, State College is 41-45 against the Scrappers, but holds a 26-17 mark in games played at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

-LAST GAME: New York-Penn League All-Star Darren Seferina and Nick Thompson each collected three hits for the State College Spikes, but the Mahoning Valley Scrappers shut out the Spikes to pick up a 5-0 win on Tuesday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

Seferina, who on Saturday was named to the NYPL All-Star Game at second base for the South squad, reached base in each of his last three at-bats, including a base hit in the seventh on which he hustled to extend it to a double. Thompson doubled in the fourth inning and produced a hit in each of his first three at-bats. However, the Spikes, who had eight hits total, left at least one man on base in every inning and 11 in total during the game.

Will Anderson, who is headed to the NYPL All-Star Game as well, saw his streak of consecutive wins end at five as he took his first loss since June 18. Anderson allowed four runs, two of them earned, on seven hits and a walk over 5 2/3 innings. The right-hander also struck out seven, his highest single-game total since setting the Spikes record with 10 on June 29 against Williamsport.

-SPIKES TAP PEREZ FOR START: Left-hander Dewin Perez makes his team-leading 11th start of the year for the Spikes tonight. Perez did not factor in the decisions at Lowell last time out, tossing 5 2/3 innings and allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks. The southpaw from Cartagena, Colombia also struck out five batters in the game. Perez has won each of his last three decisions, and both of his last two starts at home. The lefty carries a streak of 502 consecutive batters faced without allowing a home run into tonight's game, a streak that stretches back to his first pro start with the Dominican Summer League Cardinals in 2012.

-SCRAPPERS SEND BRADY TO HILL: Left-hander Sean Brady makes his team-leading 12th start with Mahoning Valley tonight. Brady has already faced the Spikes twice this season without a decision, going five shutout innings on July 23, then allowing two runs, one earned, over five innings on July 28. Last time out, the Indians' 2013 fifth-round draft choice gave up three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five over five innings in a loss to Brooklyn. Brady is 0-2 with a 4.24 road ERA this season, with a 17-to-12 strikeout-to-walk ratio away from home.

-FOUR SPIKES TABBED FOR NYPL ALL-STAR GAME: Four State College Spikes players will be featured in the New York-Penn League All-Star Game on Tuesday, August 19, as announced by the league on Saturday. Shortstop Robelys Reyes and second baseman Darren Seferina will join pitchers Will Anderson and Kyle Grana on the South team for the NYPL's 10th annual Midsummer Classic at MCU Park in Brooklyn, NY.

-SPIKES, CARDINALS EXTEND PDC THROUGH 2016: The State College Spikes today announced a two-year extension of their Player Development Contract (PDC) with the defending National League champion St. Louis Cardinals. The newly-announced extension maintains the affiliation between the Spikes and Cardinals through the 2016 New York-Penn League season. On the field, the affiliation with St. Louis has been a major success for the Spikes franchise, as Cardinals' teams have produced the only two winning seasons in Spikes history (2006 and 2013) as well as the club's lone Division Championship and an appearance in the 2013 NYPL Championship Series

-SPIKE MARKS: Kyle Grana's 13.64 strikeouts per nine innings are second-most among NYPL relievers, and his 48 total whiffs are sixth-most among all NYPL pitchers...Will Anderson is still third in the league with a 2.31 ERA...Robelys Reyes has struck out once every 11.82 plate appearances, the second-best rate in the league...Alex De Leon is second in the league in runs scored with 36
