Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Troy, NY (8/12/2014)- The Hudson Valley Renegades fell 3-2 in extra innings on Tuesday night, dropping their fourth meeting with the Tri-City ValleyCats. The loss puts the two teams in a tie for best overall record in the New York-Penn League, as both are now 39-19. Having completed the first four contests of six games in six days against each other, the Renegades have dropped three games in a row for just the second time this season. Following a 5-1 victory against the ValleyCats on Saturday, Hudson Valley has been on the losing end of three consecutive games by two runs or fewer. Their pitching staff remains atop the league in overall team pitching, as they saw another terrific start tonight.

Chris Pike tossed six innings of one-run baseball in his eighth start this season, striking out six. The righty retired MLB rehabber Alex Presley three times in the outing, including a swinging strikeout in his second at-bat. In his last two starts Pike has thrown a combined 11 innings with 12 strikeouts and just two runs surrendered. He has recorded 33 strikeouts in 40.1 innings this season to the tune of a 2-1 record on the hill.

Offensively, the Renegades scattered seven hits to score two runs. Both of their runs in the contest came in the top of the third inning to break a scoreless tie. Leopoldo Correa got things going with a double down the right-field line, and Wilmer Dominguez followed with a single into left-field. With two runners on base, Alec Sole came up big with one hopper off the wall in left-center. The two-base knock scored the game's first two runs and gave Hudson Valley a 2-0 lead. The hit expanded Sole's hitting streak to nine games, the longest of anybody on the team this season. The St. Louis University product is hitting .273 over his last ten games, and now has four doubles on the campaign.

Darren Fischer came on to pitch in the 7 th and 8 th inning of Tuesday's contest, relieving Chris Pike of his duties. Fischer went two innings without surrendering a run and struck out one batter. He was followed by Justin McCalvin who allowed two runs and struck out three in just one inning of work.

Notes: The Renegades still maintain an 8.5 game lead over the Brooklyn Cyclones in first place of the McNamara Division. They remain tied for the highest win total on the road with 17, and have won six out of their last ten. Along with the best overall record in the New York-Penn League, the Renegades and ValleyCats share the best home record at 22-6.

Hudson Valley will play two more road games against the Tri-City ValleyCats before returning home for 'Be Your Own Fan Friday' at The Dutch. Fans get to watch their ideas come to life. They'll have the opportunity to choose everything form the music, to in-between inning contests. Post-game fireworks presented by ServPro. First pitch is at 7:05 PM. Great seats are still available!
