Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Burlington Blues
The Aberdeen IronBirds were shut out for the tenth time this season last night in a 6-0 loss to the Vermont Lake Monsters. Tanner Chleborad had a rough start, taking the loss as he allowed eight hits, six runs, and three walks in two innings of work. Aberdeen did not get their first hit or base runner of the night until Tad Gold flipped a single to shallow left field with two outs in the sixth inning. All told, the IronBirds managed just three hits total on the night, as Jamill Moquete and Justin Viele each had singles as well. Nigel Nootbaar and Augey Bill combined for six innings of three-hit relief in the loss.
Murphy's Hitless Night Ends Streak
Alex Murphy went 0-3 last night, ending his hitting streak at 12 games, a new team high for the season. During the streak, he hit 16-44 (.364), with three multi-hit games, six runs scored, four doubles, and nine RBIs.
Nootbaar Strong In Relief
Prior to last night, Nigel Nootbaar's last appearance came back at Ripken Stadium against the Lake Monsters, where he pitched one inning, allowing four hits (including two home runs), six runs and a walk. He came on last night with the bases loaded and no outs in the third inning. He allowed a run on a wild pitch (the run was charged to Tanner Chleborad), but allowed just two hits in a season-long four innings of work.
On the Mound tonight...
RHP Lucas Long will get the start for the IronBirds tonight. He will be making his third start in an IronBirds uniform after the Orioles drafted him in the 24th round of this year's draft out of the University of San Diego. The Minneapolis, Minnesota native began his professional career with the GCL Orioles, making six appearances for the club, including four starts. Between Aberdeen and the GCL, Long has a career record of 1-3 and a 3.80 ERA. He will be opposed tonight by the Lake Monsters' RHP Corey Miller. Miller will be making his seventh start of the season, and his ninth appearance for Vermont. His last start came against the IronBirds, as he went three innings, allowed six hits and one run, walking two and striking out three. He is 0-3 on the season and has a 5.54 ERA. The Oakland Athletics drafted him in the 10th round of this year's draft out of Pepperdine University.
