Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

TROY, NY - Despite getting a team-leading ninth home run and an RBI double from Terrell Joyce, the Tri-City ValleyCats fell 6-2 to the Hudson Valley Renegades at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Wednesday night.

The ValleyCats had won the last three games against the Renegades as the two teams played their fifth of six straight games against each other. However, Hudson Valley scored two runs in the first inning on an RBI single by Hunter Lockwood and the Renegades never looked back.

Tri-City was able to cut the early 2-0 deficit in half in the bottom of the third when Joyce drove home Nick Tanielu on a one-out double to center field. Unfortunately, Hudson Valley tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth to extend the lead further.

Joyce's home run in the sixth inning brought the ValleyCats back to within two runs, but a subsequent two-run home run by Renegades first baseman Casey Gillaspie pushed the Hudson Valley lead to the eventual final score 6-2.

Along with Joyce, Tanielu also contributed a multi-hit night by going 2-4 with a double and a run scored, while Jason Martin went 1-4 with a double. Martin, an 18-year-old centerfielder who joined the 'Cats on Aug. 10th, has now had at least one extra-base hit in each of his four games with Tri-City.

Despite the loss, the ValleyCats actually increased their first-place lead in the Stedler Division Standings. By dropping both games in a doubleheader against the Staten Island Yankees, the Connecticut Tigers fell to a record of 31-28, eight games behind Tri-City.

The Renegades and ValleyCats will conclude their season series with a 7:00pm game tomorrow night at "The Joe."

Getting the start for Tri-City will be RHP Francis Ramirez (2-4, 4.75), with RHP Jose Alonzo (0-1, 8.18) on the mound for Hudson Valley.
