Stassi's two homers ignite win over Baysox

Brock Stassi hit two home runs on Thursday night that lead the Fightin Phils (75-55) to an 8-3 win over the Bowie Baysox (74-56). Ben Lively was solid in his return and the lineup scored a total of six runs over the final two innings.

JP Crawford doubled with one out in the bottom of the third inning off Baysox starter Gene Escat then would score on a two-run home run by Brock Stassi. Reading took a 2-0 lead into the top of the fourth inning. Lively had not given up a hit until a two-out solo home run by Quincy Latimore that cut Reading's lead to 2-1. Brandon Snyder led off the fifth inning with a single off Lively then scored on a two-run home run by Mike Yastrzemski that gave the Baysox a 3-2 lead.

Escat left the game after four innings and allowed two runs off six hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Lively left the game after five innings as he allowed three runs with one walk and five strikeouts. Jimmy Cordero entered the game in the top of the sixth inning. He didn't allow a run in the inning. Ethan Martin came into the game in the top of the seventh inning.

Crawford walked with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning then scored on a game-tying triple by Andrew Knapp. Stassi hit a two-run home run off Pat McCoy in the next at-bat that gave Reading a 5-3 lead. This is the first two-home run game by Stassi this season.

Reading scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning as they would take an 8-3 lead. KC Serna was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded that scored the first run of the inning. Crawford was walked in the following at-bat for the second run the Knapp hit a sacrifice fly for the final run. All runs were charged to Kenn Kasparek.

Rene Garcia, Harold Martinez, and Andrew Knapp all extend their hitting streaks. Ethan Martin (3-0) earned his first win as Pat McCoy (2-1) earned is first loss and was charged with his first blown save. Stassi finished the night with 88 RBI on the season (4 RBI in the game).

The Fightin Phils and Baysox will play on Friday night. First pitch is at 7:05 pm. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 6:05 pm. Fans can also watch the game on MiLB.tv at 7:05 pm.
