Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Mets used two errors to score six fifth-inning runs en route to their 9-5 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium. Xorge Carrillo hit his eighth home run of the year, as Tyler Pill improved to 5-0 as a B-Met this season.
The Fisher Cats struck first, getting on the board before Binghamton could even bat. Roemen Fields led off with a single, before Pill loaded up the bases on a pair of walks. KC Hobson then lifted a fly ball to center to score Fields.
After leaving two on in the first, Binghamton would break through just an inning later. Jonathan Galvez singled with one out before Carrillo launched a home run to left field, his eighth of the year.
The 2-1 B-Met lead would hold up until the fifth inning, when the Fisher Cats regained the advantage by scoring two runs. Dwight Smith Jr. began the frame with a double. Pill followed by walking a batter and hitting another to load up the bases. With two outs, Emilio Guerrero blooped a two-run single to right field to regain the lead. Derrick Chung was thrown out at the plate on the play for the final out of the inning.
The wheels came off for New Hampshire in the home half of the inning, committing two errors and allowing six runs to score. The B-Mets loaded the bases one out into the inning on a pair of walks and an error from Jorge Flores at short. Josh Rodriguez ripped a single into left to score two runs and give the B-Mets the lead back. After a walk reloaded the bases, Vince Belnome lifted a fly ball to left field. Smith and Fields collided, allowing the ball to drop and another B-Met run to score. Galvez capped the frame with a two-run single to center.
The Fisher Cats drew closer in the sixth against rehabber Erik Goeddel. After Goeddel got the first two outs with relative ease, the Fisher Cats placed four consecutive batters on base. After a single and a walk, Melky Mesa bounced an RBI single into center field. Ryan Schimpf followed with an RBI base hit to center as well, moving up to second on the throw. The Fisher Cats would strand two in scoring position, as they left 12 men on base in the game.
Binghamton added an insurance run in the eighth inning on a TJ Rivera RBI single to right with two outs.
Pill (5-0) earned the win, despite walking six batters and allowing three runs in five innings. Austin Bibens-Dirkx (5-8) took the loss, his second straight against Binghamton, after allowing eight runs in 4-2/3 innings.
The B-Mets (71-59) continue their series with the Fisher Cats Friday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Matt Koch takes the hill against RHP Taylor Cole. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting at 6:50 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.
