
Starting Pitcher Taylor Joins Chiefs; Will Start Tonight

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have announced that starting pitcher Scott Taylor has joined the Chiefs and will start tonight's series finale against Burlington at 6:30 PM. To make room on the 25-man roster, reliever Roberto Sotolongo has been send back to extended spring training in Mesa, AZ.
Taylor joins the Chiefs from Mesa, AZ and will make his 2006 debut this evening as the Chiefs look to sweep the Bees. Taylor was drafted in the 5th round of last June's draft out of Hermitage High School in Virginia. After the draft, Taylor joined the Mesa Cubs in the Arizona Rookie League and was 0-3 with a 6.89 ERA in six starts. He then went to Boise in the Northwest League for two starts posting a 0-0 record and a 5.63 ERA. Overall for the 2005 season, the 19 year old right-hander was 0-3 with a 6.46 ERA and 20 strikeouts over 23 2/3 innings.
Sotolongo made six appearances for the Chiefs out of the bullpen. He last threw in Beloit on Thursday when he allowed four runs on four hits without recording at out. The right-hander leaves with a 0-3 record and a 12.79 ERA. In 6 1/3 innings he allowed 11 hits and 10 runs while striking out five and walking four. The Havana, Cuba native picked up his first professional save in his second outing of the season at Cedar Rapids on April 10th.
The Chiefs finish a four game homestand with the Bees Monday April 24th with Mountain Dew Half-Price Monday. Peoria is 3-0 on the current homestand after Sunday's thrilling 13-11 come from behind win. The team will head to Dayton, OH for a four game set with the Dragons on Tuesday. After the quick roadtrip the Chiefs kick off an eight game homestand Saturday April 29th with the first post-game Fireworks show of the season. Saturday is also Peoria County Government Night and Donate Life Night at O'Brien Field as the Chiefs face the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays at 6:30 PM.
