Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

SOUTH BEND, IN -- The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scratched for eight runs to defeat the South Bend Silver Hawks Monday night at Coveleski Stadium. Rattler starter Paul Fagan scattered eight hits, sprinkled in three walks, but only allowed three runs over five innings. Harold Williams came out of the bullpen and struck out five over 2-2/3 scoreless innings. Jeff Dominguez had three hits and drove in a pair of runs to help the Rattlers gain a split in the four game series.

Wisconsin (8-10) took a 1-0 lead when Silver Hawk third baseman Steve Mena could not handle a two-out grounder off the bat of Mike Saunders. Dominguez, who doubled to start the game, scored easily from third. That double by Dominguez was the only extra base hit of the night for Wisconsin.

But, South Bend (7-11) tied the game with a run in the bottom of the first. Justin Upton singled to drive in Pedro Ciriaco with the tying run.

Wisconsin jumped back out in front with three runs in the top of the second. A balk by Hawk starting pitcher Ramon Sanchez pushed one run across. An RBI single by Ron Garth and a wild pitch scored the other two runs of the inning.

The Rattlers added two more runs in the third. An RBI single by Bryan Sabatella made it 5-1. Dominguez drew a bases loaded walk from reliever Ryan Doherty to force in another run.

South Bend loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Leyson Septimo singled to center to score a run. Another run appeared to have scored, but Mike Saunders threw out Steve Mena at third base for the final out before the second run could cross the plate.

The Hawks did get to within 6-3 in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Bryan Byrne.

A sacrifice fly by Dominguez in the seventh and a sac fly by Eddy Hernandez in the eighth padded the Rattler lead to 8-3.

The Hawks added a run in the bottom of the ninth inning on a sac fly by Ciriaco, but 8-4 was as close as they would get.

Wisconsin continues their road trip with a four game series against the Fort Wayne Wizards. Marwin Vega (1-1, 1.56ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. The Wizards plan on sending Josh Geer (1-0, 2.25ERA) to the hill. Game time at Memorial Stadium is 5:00pm CDT.
