April 24, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Peoria Chiefs News Release

Peoria, IL - Behind a three fun fourth and solid pitching, the Peoria Chiefs completed a four game sweep of the Burlington Bees, winning 3-2 Monday night at O'Brien Field. With the win, their 4th in a row, the Chiefs are now 9-9 on the season.

With one out in the fourth, Ryan Norwood singled to left, Alberto Garcia was hit by a pitch, and Robinson Chirinos reached on an error loading the bases. One out later, Bees' starter David Henninger walked in Norwood from third when he gave a free pass to Matt Ciaramella on a full count. Davy Gregg, the next man up, singled home Garcia and Chirinos to make it 3-0.

The Bees were able to get on the board in the fifth. After a single and an error putting runners on first and second, Jose Duarte blooped one into left field making it a 3-1 ball game. Mike Billek then came on to relieve starter Scott Taylor and prevented further damage when Jake Muyco made an outstanding play on a pop up behind home plate, almost ending up in the first row of the stands. Burlington tried to creep within a run in the seventh, but Carlos Arroyo was gunned down at the plate by Ciaramella trying to score on a fly out to right.

The Bees made a final attempt to tie it in the ninth off of Tim Layden. After back to back singles and a sacrifice bunt to lead off the frame, pinch-hitter Mario Lisson made it a one-run game on an RBI groundout, but Layden was able to strand the tying run out at second by inducing Jeremy Jirschele to ground out to Dylan Johnston.

Taylor ended up pitching 4 2/3 innings giving up just one unearned run on two hits. He struck out four and walked none. Billek picked up his first win of the year making his debut out of the bullpen for the Chiefs. Layden came on in the ninth and earned his first save of the season. Henninger got the loss for Burlington dropping his record to 1-1. He went 5 2/3 innings allowing three runs, all unearned, giving up five hits, striking out seven and delivering three bases-on-balls.
