Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING - What a difference a day makes. Just 24 hours after the Lugnuts and Snappers played a 17 inning marathon, Lansing scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to snatch a 3-2 victory from Beloit before 1,229 fans at Oldsmobile Park Monday night. The game was played in a swift 2 hours and 14 minutes.
With two men out in the ninth, Lansing's Cory Patton popped up a Yohan Pino offering to right field. The right fielder Dwayne White and second baseman Andrew Thompson let the ball fall in between them as neither man called the other off. Joey Metropoulos drew a walk from Pino to bring up Jacob Butler. Bulter smacked a 3-2 pitch to right-center field past the outstreched Edward Ovalle that scored both runners and lifted the Lugnuts to the 3-2 win. It is the second consecutive day that Lansing has won in walk-off fashion.
Beloit led for most of the game after Caleb Moore raced home on a Russ Savickas wild pitch in the second inning to make the score 1-0.
The Snappers plated another run in the fifth when Erik Lis lifted a double to deep left-center field that scored Paul Kelly to push the lead to 2-0.
The Lugnuts cut the lead in half in the seventh inning when Metropoulos tripled and scored on a Butler groundout.
Russ Savickas had another good outing for Lansing (13-5) by tossing six innings and allowing just two runs, only one of which was earned. Sean Stidfole picked up the win for the Lugnuts by throwing three innings of shutout relief in his first appearance of the season.
The Lugnuts took the series over Beloit (9-9) 3-1, marking the fifth consecutive series that Lansing has won to open the season.
Lansing will host Cedar Rapids on Tuesday for the first game of a four game set with the Kernels. Billy Carnline (1-0, 0.56 ERA) will take the mound for the Lugnuts while Robert Mosebach (1-0, 1.84 ERA) will hurl for Cedar Rapids. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
