Stars Select 11 Players in 2018 USHL Phase I Draft

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars selected 11 players in Phase I of the 2018 USHL Draft, picking seven (7) forwards and four (4) defensemen on Monday evening.

Three (3) NCAA Division I college commits headlined the draft list, including 11th overall selection Brandon Chabrier, a Northeastern University commit, as well as 27th overall selection Aidan Thompson, who is committed to Denver University, and Ben Dexheimer, a Miami University (OH) commit.

"I think our main plan was to stay domestic this year and really focus on guys that we see playing here," said Stars General Manager Jon Hull. "Some of them have a short path, and some of them have a long path. I think we stuck to our plan and went with speed and skill, and that was our objective."

11th Overall (1st Round) - Brandon Chabrier - Defenseman

Last Team: Long Island Gulls 16U | Committed: Northeastern University

Bio: The 5-foot-11, 150-pound defenseman posted six goals and 25 assists for 31 points through 35 games between the Long Island Gulls 16U and Portledge School. The Bayville, N.Y. native also played in the USA Hockey Select Development Camp.

27th Overall (2nd Round) - Aidan Thompson - Forward

Last Team: Colorado Thunderbirds U16 | Committed: Denver University

Bio: The 5-foot-9, 141-pound forward tallied eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points through 37 games last season. The Fort Collins, Colo. product participated in the USA Hockey Select Development Camp.

43rd Overall (3rd Round) - Declan McDonnell - Forward

Last Team: Buffalo Jr. Sabres 15U

Bio: The 5-foot-9, 163-pound forward totaled 24 goals and 19 assists for 43 points through 31 games last season, leading the T1EHL in points. The Lake View, N.Y. native participated in the USA Hockey Select Development Camp.

59th Overall (4th Round) - Dominic James - Forward

Last Team: Oakland Jr. Grizzlies U16

Bio: The 5-foot-4, 110-pound forward netted seven goals and seven assists for 14 points through 17 games in 2017-18. He is from Plymouth, Mich.

75th Overall (5th Round) - Jacob Bauer - Defenseman

Last Team: Little Caesars U15

Bio: The 5-foot-11, 148-pound defenseman posted 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points through 64 games last year. He is from Detroit, Mich.

88th Overall (6th Round) - Nate Mann - Forward

Last Team: Buffalo Jr. Sabres 15U

Bio: The 5-foot-11, 146-pound forward tallied 15 goals and 11 assists for 26 points through 30 games in 2017-18. He is from Hilton, N.Y.

91st Overall (6th Round) - Ben Steeves - Forward

Last Team: New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs 16U

Bio: The 5-foot-4, 126-pound forward totaled 49 goals and 21 assists for 70 points through 50 games last season. The Bedford, N.Y. native participated in the USA Hockey Select Development Camp. His brothers, Alex and Matt, both played in the USHL for Dubuque and Muskegon, respectively.

107th Overall (7th Round) - Ben Dexheimer - Defenseman

Last Team: Minnesota Blades 15U | Committed: Miami University (OH)

Bio: The 5-foot-5, 115-pound defenseman netted one goal and five assists for six points through four games in 2017-18. The Edina, Minn. product participated in the USA Hockey Selects Development Camp.

123rd Overall (8th Round) - Owen Michaels - Forward

Last Team: Oakland Jr. Grizzlies 16U

Bio: The 5-foot-10, 149-pound forward added 13 goals and 23 assists for 36 points through 80 games last season. He is from Plymouth, Mich.

139th Overall (9th Round) - Max Itagaki - Forward

Last Team: Chicago Mission 15U

Bio: The 5-foot-5, 134-pound forward posted 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 points through 20 games last year, leading the HPHL in assists en route to a HPHL Championship. The Glenview, Ill. native participated in the USA Hockey Selects Development Camp.

155th Overall (10th Round) - Will Bowman - Defenseman

Last Team: Chicago Mission 15U

Bio: The 5-foot-10, 161-pound defenseman posted one goal and eight assists for nine points through 20 games in 2017-18 en route to a HPHL Championship. He is from Chicago, Ill. His grandfather is former NHL head coach Scotty Bowman.
