Stars Run out of Gas in Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Lincoln Stars (5-7-1) couldn't extend their winning streak to three, falling 5-1 against the Des Moines Buccaneers (10-8-2) on Saturday night at Wells Fargo Arena.

Alex Laferriere scored the lone goal in the first period on the power play at 11:22, notching his seventh goal of the season. Lincoln failed to answer on their lone man-advantage of the opening set of 20 minutes.

For the second consecutive night, the Stars were outshot significantly by Des Moines in the first period. Des Moines held a 9-2 shot advantage and a one-goal lead in the game heading into the second period.

Killian Kiecker-Olson took advantage of a fortuitous bounce after Tiernan Shoudy's pass re-directed off of him and past Ryan Ouellette for a 2-0 Bucs lead. The goal game at 3:35. Noah Ellis increased Des Moines' lead to three with a shot from the right circle during a 4-on-4 with 50 seconds left in the period.

Lincoln trailed 3-0 heading into the third period and were outshot 15-9 after 40 minutes.

Tiernan Shoudy would add a goal at 4:19 for the Bucs, making it 4-0 Des Moines. Aidan Thompson would get the Stars on the board with his fourth goal of the season at 15:27. Jack O'Leary and Dominic James were given the assists.

Laferriere would tap home an empty-netter to close out the win for the Bucs.

Ouellette made 20 saves on 25 shots while Derek Mullahy picked up the win after stopping 14 Lincoln shots.

The Stars power-play went 0-for-5 and the penalty kill was 4-for-5.

The Stars will begin another home-and-home next week, this time with the Omaha Lancers! Friday's game will be in Omaha, but the Stars are back in the Ice Box on Saturday night!
