STOCKTON, Calif., - The Salt Lake City Stars (10-13) the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, battled against the Stockton Kings (15-9) (Sacramento Kings affiliate), securing a road victory, 123-119, Saturday night at the Adventist Health Arena.
The Stars were led by Utah Jazz two-way guard Jason Preston, who nearly recorded his fourth triple-double with Salt Lake City, notching 24 points, 12 assists, and nine rebounds. Utah Jazz two-way player Johnny Juzang led the night in scoring with a 30-point effort on 12-of-21 shooting. Stars forward Keshawn Justice had his second-straight game of five or more made threes, scoring 18 points, on six-of-10 from deep, including the go-ahead basket with 22 seconds remaining. Meanwhile, Utah Jazz two-way Center Micah Potter, secured his 13th double-double of the season with 17 points and 13 rebounds.
The Stars fell behind the Kings early in the first quarter, but managed to grab a brief one-point lead with just under two minutes remaining. Stockton closed the quarter strong, gaining a 32-28 lead after 12 minutes of play. The second quarter saw four lead changes before the back-and-forth turned into a 64-61 halftime deficit for the Stars.
Salt Lake City had a strong response out of the locker room, using an 18-3 run to open the quarter before eventually pushing their lead to 18. Juzang tallied 18 of the 37 Stars points in the period, and the team held a 98-87 advantage entering the final quarter of play. Salt Lake City never trailed in the fourth quarter. Although Stockton managed to tie the score twice in the final minute, Keshawn Justice splashed home his sixth three of the night from the right corner to seal the Stars lead for good.
Stockton Kings Center, Skal Labissiere, led the team in scoring with 26 points, to go with six rebounds, and three blocks. Meanwhile, Sacramento Kings two-way guard Mason Jones had a 19-point, 15-assist double-double, grabbing seven rebounds.
The Stars return home from their one game road trip to host the Texas Legends on Tuesday, March 5 at the Maverik Center. The contest tips off at 7:00 p.m. MT and will be broadcast LIVE on Jazz+ and ESPN+.
