
Stars Outshine Legends in Final Minutes

FRISCO, TX - The Salt Lake City Stars (2-0) came alive in the fourth to defeat the visiting Texas Legends (1-1) 106-96 in the final minutes.
Salt Lake City came out firing, taking a 14-3 lead midway through the first. Texas responded with a 16-2 run to take their first lead of the game, and after four more lead changes the two teams ended the first at 29 each. Jameel Warney opened the second with back-to-back threes to set the tone for Texas' streak to the half. The Legends went to the locker room up 10 behind a perfect first half from Warney who had racked up 16 points, hitting 4-of-4 from outside.
The Stars closed the gap in the third, holding Texas to 40% shooting (11% outside) and coming within two points at the buzzer. Texas held onto a tight lead until the five minute mark when the home team put up 10 unanswered points to seal the victory.
Daryl Macon led the Legends' scoring efforts with 23, adding 5 rebounds, 3 assists. Warney finished with 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals in 27 minutes. Mavericks assignee Ray Spalding (19 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks) and Rashad Vaughn (17 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists) rounded out the double-digit scoring while Codi Miller-McIntyre (7 points, 4 rebounds, 10 assists, 4 steals) led the game in assists.
Tyler Cavanaugh and Willie Reed powered the Stars efforts, both adding 30-point double-doubles. Cavanaugh led all scorers with 35 points, 11 rebounds, hitting 9-of-14 from outside while Reed dominated the boards, grabbing 16 while posting 31 points.
