Windy City Drops Their Second Consecutive Game, Fall to Grand Rapids, 114-105

Hoffman Estates, IL - The Windy City Bulls, presented by BMO Harris Bank, the NBA G League affiliate of the Chicago Bulls, lost their second consecutive game and fell 114-105 to the Grand Rapids Drive Wednesday night at Sears Centre Arena.

Three Windy City players scored in double figures led by Ferrakohn Hall who tallied his first career 20-point game and poured in a career-high 28 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block, while logging a game-high 37 minutes. Tyler Ulis recorded his first career G League double-double and set career-highs with 28 points, 13 assists and five rebounds, along with a career-high-tying three steals. Mychal Mulder added 13 points and five rebounds on 5-of-8 shooting, while CJ Fair and Joe Kilgore had seven points apiece.

Keenan Evans and Grand Rapids Two-Way players, Zach Lofton and Khyri Thomas all scored a team-high 18 points. Detroit Pistons assignment player, Henry Ellenson, registered his third double-double in his many games with 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, while Michael Bethea Jr. posted 15 points in a reserve role. Shep Garner added eight points and despite not cracking the scoring column, Jon Horford pitched in with 10 rebounds.

After failing score 20 first quarter points in the first two games of the season, Windy City opened the contest with the offense in sync. They made seven of their first 11 shots and jumped out to a 15-5 lead in the opening five minutes of the contest. At one point, the Bulls scored 12 consecutive points to lead by 13 and used an 18-2 run to take a 17-point advantage, their largest of the night. However, Grand Rapids managed to trim the lead to as little as five points, but on the heels of 52 percent shooting, Windy City led 31-25 at the end of the first frame.

Grand Rapids scored the first points of the second quarter and sliced the lead to four on a couple occasions, but Windy City kept the Drive at bay by retaking a double double-digit late in the period. Hall scored nine first quarter points and tallied 13 points in the second period to lead all scorers. Offensively, Windy City remained in rhythm and recorded 31 points in the stanza, matching their first quarter total. The Bulls forged ahead by 14 points late in the half, but a three-pointer by Thomas made it an 11-point game at the intermission, 62-51.

The Drive opened the second half scoring seven consecutive points to make it a 62-58 game, forcing a Windy City timeout with 9:44 remaining in the period. Following the timeout, Grand Rapids made it a one possession game before Ulis snapped an 8-0 run with a pull-up jumper at the 8:03 mark. The Drive eventually tied the game on a pair of free throws and took their first lead of the night on a driving layup by Lofton. Grand Rapids went on to lead by as many as 14, shot 59 percent from the floor, outscored the Bulls by 20 and led 87-78 heading into the final 12 minutes.

Grand Rapids opened the fourth quarter scoring eight of the first 11 points to extend the lead to 14, matching their largest advantage of the night. Windy City made one final push cutting the lead to single digits and came within a basket aided by eight straight points, but that is as close as the Bulls would get. The Drive responded with six consecutive points of their own and won their second consecutive game against Windy City, 114-105.

With the loss, Windy City drops to 1-2 and have dropped four straight games to Grand Rapids, including both this season.

Windy City hits the road for the second time this year as they take on the Capital City Go-Go Friday Night in the first head-to-head matchup in franchise history. Tip-off is slated for 6:00pm CT.
