Greensboro Swarm News Release
(GREENSBORO, N.C.) - The Greensboro Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, today announced an initiative with PNC Bank for a season-long campaign to benefit Guilford Child Development (GCD). For every three-pointer made by a Swarm player at home during the 2018-19 season, PNC will make a contribution to the local nonprofit - which provides services to more than 6,000 children and families in Guilford County each year.
"We are looking forward to joining with PNC on this campaign to benefit Guilford Child Development," said Swarm President Steve Swetoha. "Education is a key initiative for the Greensboro Swarm and we are proud to help raise money for such a great organization. We take great pride in supporting our sponsors and the Greensboro community."
For each of the team's 24 home games at the Fieldhouse at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex, PNC will donate $3 for each three-pointer made by a Swarm player. Updates on each night's contribution will be on the Swarm's digital platforms as well with signage for fans in attendance. The hashtag #PNC3Pointer will lead the campaign on social media to keep fans posted on PNC's donations to Guilford Child Development. Also, the Swarm and PNC will recognize a GCD teacher for excellence at one home game during the season.
"Guilford Child Development is a true leader in early childhood education and works tirelessly to support its families," said Weston M. Andress, PNC regional president of Western Carolinas. "We appreciate the Swarms' commitment to honoring pre-K teachers and helping build a strong workforce for tomorrow."
Aligning with the Swarm's community commitment in education, health and wellness, PNC selected Guilford Child Development to be honored because of its excellence in supporting early childhood education. Founded in 1967, GCD offers comprehensive programs to help young children and families reach their full potential.
"Guilford Child Development is excited to be the beneficiary of the collaboration between PNC and the Greensboro Swarm," said GCD Chief Executive Officer Robin Britt. "PNC has been a major supporter of GCD over the years. Their 'PNC three-pointer' campaign and the Swarm's deep commitment to the health and well-being of the community will make a difference in the lives of young children and their families in Guilford County."
The Swarm's home opener is 7 p.m. November 10, when the Grand Rapids Drive visit the Fieldhouse at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex.
