Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Texas Stars scored the final four goals of the game to pull away from the Peoria Rivermen 6-2 on Friday night at the Cedar Park Center. The Rivermen fell to 20-18-2-1 with the loss and remain in fourth place in the Midwest Division.
Maxime Fortunus beat Ben Bishop at 10:16 of the first period for the frame's only goal. His wrist past Bishop's glove finished off a three-on-one break for the Stars. The Stars took a 2-0 lead just four seconds into their third power play of the game. Matt Fraser's shot from the point was tipped in by Stephen Shultz at 1:33 of the second.
Peoria answered with two goals in 34 seconds to quickly tie the game. Cade Fairchild tallied his fourth goal of the season to cut the Stars lead in half at the 4:06 mark and then Jonathon Cheecho hammered in goal in his 11th from T.J. Hensick and Nigro at 4:40.
Hensick extended his point streak to five straight games with the 200th assist of his professional career (174 - AHL, 26 NHL).
Texas regained the lead for good at 12:47 when Mike Hedden tallied his fifth goal of the season from Fraser and Travis Morin. They regained their two-goal lead at 17:44 when Scott Glennie ripped one along the ice past Bishop.
Schultz added a power-play tally at 9:24 of the third and Ryan Garbutt capped the scoring with a shorthanded goal at 18:55.
Texas outshot Peoria 35-23 and went 2-for-5 on the man advantage while Peoria went 0-for-4.
The Rivermen travel to San Antonio to face the Rampage on Saturday at 7 p.m. The game can be heard locally on CD Country 107.9 FM or worldwide by visiting www.rivermen.net.
