Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators rebounded from a four-game losing streak as they defeated the East Division leading Hershey Bears 4-3 Friday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
Jim O'Brien tallied a pair of goals in the victory, including the game winner, and Robin Lehner made 42 saves as Binghamton upended the Bears, drawing their first victory against the division rivals since a 4-3 win on Feb. 12, 2011.
The B-Sens scored three of their four goals in the first period. Corey Locke struck first at 9:12 of the opening frame. O'Brien stretched the lead to two at 11:05 before Cannone snapped a shot past Bears' netminder Braden Holtby on a power play at 14:23.
The Bears chipped away at Binghamton's lead in the second as they posted a pair of goals. Blueliner Julien Brouillette wristed one in at the 7:54 mark, while Jacob Micflikier brought the Bears within one as he capitalized on a power play just over three minutes later.
A shorthanded tally by Chris Bourque at 11:28 of the third period tied the game up at three, but O'Brien answered with a shorty of his own at 13:52 to put the B-Sens on top for good.
The Bears would go on the power play for the final 1:11 remaining in regulation, and ultimately outshot the B-Sens 14 to 8 in the third period, but Lehner remained strong in goal to help his team hold on to their lead.
The B-Sens ended the night 1-for-6 on the power play. Hershey was 1-for-5 with the man advantage.
The B-Sens are in action again on Sunday as they host the Adirondack Phantoms at 5:05 p.m. Tickets are $18.50 for side seating, $17.50 for end seating. Fans can purchase tickets at www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 1-800-745-3000 or in person at the Binghamton Senators' executive office or the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena box office.
