Abbotsford Heat News Release

Abbotsford, BC - For the first time in franchise history, the Abbotsford Heat are preparing to face the Charlotte Checkers (Carolina Hurricanes) as the pair of Western Conference contenders play two games in two nights this weekend at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre.

Yesterday, the Heat hit the ice for their first practice since returning from a ten day road trip through Texas and Oklahoma that saw the team go 2-3 and remain the best road team in the league. Today is the first of four regular season games against the Charlotte Checkers - who lead the Midwest Division with 50 points, one less than the Heat who have 51 points, and have played one fewer contest than the second-year North Carolina AHL club.

Danny Taylor has started sixteen consecutive games for the Heat since making his first start on December the 4th in Chicago. The 25-year-old puck-stopper is tied for the second best save percentage in the AHL with a mark of .932. Taylor also has the sixth best goals against average, and is just three wins off the league lead of 17.

Tonight is another Loonie, Toonie, Dog 'n Brew night at the AESC, while Saturday is an opportunity to convert previously unused season tickets into a seat for the second of two meetings between two of the best in the West.

This evening's first of two games in two nights, starts at 7:00 PM with the pre-game show starting at 6:30 on Country 107.1 FM and online at theAHL.com.
