Iowa Chops News Release

MILWAUKEE, WI - The Iowa Stars traveled to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the fifth and final time during the Regular Season to face the Milwaukee Admirals on Saturday evening. The Stars rebounded from a 3-1 loss to Omaha Friday night to defeat the Milwaukee Admirals 6-2 on Saturday. Iowa finished their regular season series against Milwaukee with a record of 9-1-0-0 and 18 of a possible 20 points. Iowa is 5-0-0-0 in Milwaukee. By virtue of a 6-3 loss by Peoria, Iowa has now moved four points ahead of the Rivermen for the fourth and final playoff spot in the West Division.

The Admirals grabbed the 1-0 lead early into the opening period. John Laliberte netted his second of the season just 2:21 into the game. Laliberte's goal came off a face-off win by Cal O'Reilly. Just over one minute later, rookie Defenseman Mark Fistric notched his second goal of the season when he followed up on his own shot and scored on a rebound. Despite being out-shot 14 to six in the period, Iowa entered the intermission ties at one.

Iowa's Francis Wathier gave the Stars a 2-1 lead midway through the second period. Wathier was the beneficiary of a funny bounce on the end wall and tapped it past Milwaukee netminder Pekka Rinne. Rookie Defenseman Matt Niskanen registered his first professional point with an assist on the goal that came at 8:38. Chris Conner, another rookie, capitalized on a rebound of a Shane Endicott shot that lingered in the crease. Conner's goal came less than two minutes after Wathier's goal. Iowa out-shot the Admirals 13 to eight in the period.

Wathier notched his second goal of the season at the 5:59 mark of the third period. Saturday's two-goal game was the first of Wathier's AHL career and gave him 12 goals on the season. Endicott earned his second assist of the game. Iowa expanded their lead to 5-1 when Yared Hagos potted his sixth of the year. Hagos picked-up a loose puck at center ice and registered an empty-net shorthanded goal at the 16:53 mark. The shorthanded goal was Iowa's 14th of the season. John Laliberte scored his second of the game, again off a face-off win by his centerman. Iowa Forward Marius Holtet put the final nail in the coffin with a slap-shot that found its way through the five-hole of the Milwaukee netminder. Shane Endicott garnered his third assist of the game on Holtet's goal.
