The Manitoba Moose scored a fluke goal 20 seconds into the third period and held on for a 3-2 win over the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights on Saturday night at the Civic Auditorium. It was Manitoba's third win in three tries against the Knights.

The Knights would take their only lead of the game while on a power play. Chris Lee's shot attempt was stopped by Moose goaltender Drew MacIntyre, but Dustin Boyd collected the rebound to put the Knights ahead with his 26th goal of the season.

Manitoba would reply with a power play goal of its own at 12:58 of the first period. An Omaha clearing attempt was batted down at the blueline, and the puck bounced onto the stick of Lee Goren who snuck a shot past Knights' goaltender Brent Krahn.

The Moose took the lead before the end of the first period as Jesse Schultz bullied his way around the Knights' defense and released a quick wrist shot over the glove of Krahn.

The deciding goal came off a weird play just 20 seconds into the third period. Knights' defenseman Brad Ference went back to collect a dump in. As he prepared the carry the puck behind his net, the puck stopped dead in a puddle of water next to the net. Jason Jaffray stole it and spotted Jannik Hansen in the slot who buried the puck behind Krahn.

The Knights crept within one with their second power play goal of the game at the 3:45 mark of the third period. A tick-tack-toe passing play resulted in Kris Chucko's goal-mouth pass attempt being deflected in by a Moose defender.

The Knights are now 43-24-4-1. The loss combined with an overtime loss by Chicago leaves the Knights two points behind the Wolves for the West Division lead with three games in hand. The Milwaukee Admirals also lost tonight so the Knights maintain their two point edge on the Admirals.

Three Stars: 1. Lee Goren (MAN) - 1 goal; 2. Dustin Boyd (OMA) - 1 goal, 1 assist; 3. Jason Jaffray (MAN) - 2 assists.

The Ak-Sar-Ben Knights will make their way to Des Moines for a match-up with the Iowa Stars Tuesday night. All the action can be heard live on 1420 KOTK and on the internet at omahaaksarbenknights.com. The game also can be seen on-line through the B2 Networks link on the Knights' web site.
