Norfolk Admirals News Release
ALBANY, NY - Despite a pair of goals by rookie winger Jack Skille, the Albany River Rats (34-32-3-3) defeated the Norfolk Admirals (48-19-6-1) 5-3 on Saturday night at the Times Union Center.
The River Rats jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period. Ryan Bayda sent a snap shot from the right circle over Norfolk netminder Mike Brodeur's shoulder at 12:01. Cody McLeod scored a shorthanded goal at 15:07 to double the Albany lead.
Skille put the Admirals on the board 2:43 into the second stanza. He received a cross-ice pass from David Bolland along the right boards and deked around an Albany defender before sending a snap shot top shelf, stick side on River Rats goalie Tyler Weiman.
Albany briefly re-established their two-goal lead just 37 seconds later. Dan DaSilva netted a goal off a rebound at 3:20. However, an Admirals power play paid dividends over three minutes later. Martin St. Pierre sent a shot from the left half-wall that deflected off a stick and into the net at 6:36. The Admirals trailed 3-2 heading into the third period.
Shane Willis put Albany on top 4-2 with goal off a partial breakaway at 4:43 of the final frame. Bayda tallied a power play goal at 10:06. Skille tallied his second goal of the evening at 19:43 to close out scoring at 5-3 in favor of Albany.
Brodeur (26 shots, 11 saves) got the loss. Tyler Weiman (39 shots, 36 saves) earned the victory.
Norfolk was 1-4 on the power play. Albany was 1-5.
