Stars Drop Last Game of February

Tanner Ludtke scored for a fourth consecutive game, but the Lincoln Stars fell to the Sioux Falls Stampede, 4-2, on Saturday night at the Ice Box.
Lincoln (25-17-3) was unable to overcome giving up two Sioux Falls (18-21-4-3) goals in the opening 6:42 of the third period to break a 1-1 tie. The Stars cut the deficit to one with 7:55 remaining in the game but surrendered an empty-net goal in the final minute.
The Stars suffered their sixth consecutive loss despite outshooting an opponent for the fifth time in the last six games. Samuel Harris scored twice for the Stampede to force a split of the season series in the eighth and final regular season meeting of the 2022-23 regular season.
Thirty-seven minutes went by without a goal before the two teams combined to score two goals 1:06 apart in the second period. Harris got things started with his first of the game on a two-on-one rush at the 17:05 mark. Dashel Oliver answered for the Stars by taking the puck into the zone on his own and wristing a shot over goaltender Caleb Heil's right shoulder for his third of the season.
Harris cashed in on a power play to give the Stampede the lead for good when he tried to pass the puck form the far-post side across the slot, but it caught a stick, came back to him and Harris scored to record his fourth multi-goal game of the season.
Ryan Gordon scored his second in as many days 2:55 later on a one-timer in between the circles for the eventual game-winner. Ludtke scored his 25th of the season on a one timer from the right-circle off a feed from Mason Marcellus but the Stampede regained a two-goal lead on Will McDonough's empty-net goal with 22 seconds remaining.
