Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

MUSKEGON - Last night's game at Trinity Health Arena saw the Lumberjacks pick up a commanding 7-4 win while being outshot by a considerable margin. Tonight's game was the complete opposite while the Jacks outshot the USA, but fell by a score of 5-1.

With the loss Muskegon falls to 20-22-2-0 with 42 points in the USHL's Eastern Conference. The USNTP record improves to 24-13-1-2 this season with 51 in 4th place of the Eastern Conference.

Scoring opened at the 14:45 mark of the first period with a shorthanded tally for Brendan McMorrow and the United States. McMorrow caused a turnover at the top of his own blue line and carried possession in on goal alone on a breakaway. McMorrow found the back of the net for his 7th USHL goal this season giving the Program the 1-0 lead.

No goals were scored in the second period, but the USA wasted no time to open the scoring in the third with a goal 5:20 into the final frame. Charlie Cerrato found the puck in the Muskegon zone thanks to a turnover from the Lumberjack defense and had an open lane towards the slot. Cerrato fired a shot to the far side of the net for his first USHL goal and a 2-0 USA lead.

Just 1:34 later the US struck again. This time Cerrato picking up an assist on the play. Cerrato circled his way around the Muskegon zone and ended up in the far side corner before sending a pass into the slot for Austin Burnevik. The St. Cloud commit one timed the puck into the back of the net extending the lead to 3-0.

Cerrato scored his second goal of the game, this time on an empty net from his own zone at the 13:43 mark of the period. With penalties assessed to both teams the Jacks decided to empty the net for a man advantage. Despite the effort from the Lumberjacks in the offensive zone Cerrato found the puck and sent it down the ice and into the open frame.

Muskegon found the back of the net at the 18:18 mark to get one on the board. Luke Buss sent the puck from the near side of the neutral zone across the blueline to Michael Callow. Callow carried it in a couple of steps and sent it back to the near side for Easton Young who joined the rush from his position at on defense. Young pushed the puck between the legs of Jack Parsons and made it a 4-1 game with just under 2 minutes to play.

One more empty net goal for Teddy Stiga and the United States and the NTDP picked up the 5-1 win over the Jacks to earn the weekend split in Muskegon.

Raythan Robbins (4-10-0) stopped 24 of 27 shots sent his way but earns the loss despite a strong effort in the crease. Parsons (8-4-1) meanwhile played out of his mind to stop 32 of 33 shots in the winning effort.

Next up for the Lumberjacks is a trip to Cedar Rapids for a weekend series against the RoughRiders on March 3rd and 4th. Puck drop is schedule for 8:05 EST at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
