Caps Fall in OT to Dubuque 4-3

Following a 5-2 loss on Friday night, the Capitols hit the ice on Saturday in hopes to force their third straight split. The lack of the goals last night for Madison led to the Caps putting the foot on the gas early on during Saturday's contest.

In fact, earlier could not be more true with a first USHL goal for Capitols forward Landen Gunderson being the only tally from either side in period one. The goal came at the 1:07 mark of the period as the top unit for Madison hit the ice early on to take the lead. Madison took the lead to intermission, which statistics show that Dubuque struggles when not scoring first or taking a lead into intermission one.

Period number two found more scoring not only for Madison, but for Dubuque as well. Early on in the period, a deflection off of a skate allowed Tyler Grahme to get behind the defense of Dubuque. He was able to find a breakaway goal for his fourth of the season to extend the lead to 2-0. Later on in the period, Madison was able to keep the addition going in the goal column adding one off of Peter Cisar's stick. Cisar found an opening backdoor where Brendan Lamb was able to send it to him for a tap in. The Saints added a power play goal late in the period to shrink the lead to two into intermission number two.

Dubuque popped two in the back of the net early on in the third, but Madison was able to sustain their own. Holding on at a 3-3 tie throughout the rest of the third period sending the Caps to their fourth overtime game of the season. In overtime, chances from both sides early on resulted in tired legs for Madison. Dubuque was able to find twine to take the extra point from the game.

Madison moves to 11-30-2-1 on the season and hits the road to Chicago next weekend for a Saturday-Sunday two-game set. The Caps return the following weekend to face off against the USNTDP U-18's. Tickets can be found at tickets.madcapshockey.com.
